Wasp & Bee Control

Safe, swift, and expert removal of wasps and bees - protecting your home and peace of mind with Bugnix.

When to call a Wasp & Bee Exterminator & Pest Control Professional

Wasps and bees can pose serious risks when they build nests in or around your home or business. While bees are important pollinators, having a nest too close to people can still be dangerous - especially for those with allergies. Wasps, on the other hand, are more aggressive and territorial, making infestations particularly concerning. Nests can be hidden in walls, roofs, sheds, or even underground, making early detection tricky.

To protect your property and those around it, it’s essential to understand the behaviour of these stinging insects, take preventive steps, and contact a professional like Bugnix for safe, effective removal when needed.

How Do I Identify Wasps?

Even though wasps can vary in size and species, the easiest way to identify them is to know their common characteristics. Wasps have the following features:

  • Medium-sized insects, usually between 1/2 inch and 1 inch long (some species can be smaller or larger)

  • Smooth, slender bodies with a very narrow “waist” between the thorax and abdomen

  • Bright coloring, often yellow and black, but some species are red, brown, or metallic blue

  • Shiny bodies with little to no hair (unlike bees, which are fuzzier)

  • Two pairs of transparent wings that fold lengthwise when at rest

  • Long legs that may dangle while flying

  • Antennae that are clearly visible and slightly curved

  • Nests made of papery material (chewed wood fibers mixed with saliva) or mud, depending on the species

  • Nests commonly found under eaves, in trees, in wall voids, underground, or attached to structures

  • Can sting multiple times — unlike honeybees, wasps do not lose their stinger after stinging

  • More aggressive behavior if their nest is disturbed

If you’re unsure whether you’re seeing a wasp or another insect like a bee or hornet, look for the smooth body, narrow waist, and shiny appearance as key identifying traits.

What Are the Effects of Wasps in and Around My Home or Business?

The biggest concern with a wasp infestation is the risk of stings—especially for those with allergies, where a sting could be life-threatening. Yellowjackets and paper wasps are the most likely to sting when they feel threatened. While wasps don’t usually sting unprovoked, their presence can cause constant worry whenever you’re outside or entering your home or business. If they’ve made their way indoors, the risk of being stung increases significantly.
